Firefighters from Woodward, Sharon and Mutual worked quickly to contain a grass fire that erupted in a residential area south of Woodward Tuesday afternoon. Woodward Fire Marshal Todd Finley said the fire was started after a vehicle was driven into an area of tall grass on a property along Prairie Road. “We think that the vehicle’s exhaust system started the fire,” Finley said, noting that the vehicle was a total loss. The fire then quickly spread through the tall grass to a nearby mobile home, and the yards of two neighboring homes. The fire consumed the contents of a trailer and an open tin building on one of the neighboring properties. It also damaged a storage building and altogether caused around $40,000 in total damages, according to Woodward Fire Lt. Rick Hay.
