Several of Oklahoma’s state FFA officers made a stop in Woodward Tuesday as part of their FFA “Goodwill Tour” to speak to area high school FFA members.
State FFA President Austin Akins of Amber-Pocasset, Northwest Vice President Cody Ott of Fairview, Northeast Vice President Cody Nieman who went to Woodland High School and Secretary Chelsea Clifton of Kingfisher all attend Oklahoma State University and travel the state speaking to numerous FFA chapters.
The officers made a presentation urging local FFA members to discover their purpose, identify their passion and persevere.
Ott took time to tell the area high school FFA members about the difference in participating in high school FFA and continuing in FFA during college.
Ott said learning to manage time in college is key to succeeding, especially in the area of FFA and caring for stock.
The four state officers said they decided to continue in FFA in college and run for state offices because they had such great high school FFA experiences and wanted to serve and give back to the organization. The four also agreed that they chose to become state officers to show high school FFA members what great opportunities there are.
Each year a board of nine committee members nominates FFA members from all over the state to run for state office. The nominees then travel and campaign until it is time for the election.
The election is held at a state FFA convention and each FFA chapter in the state selects two delegates to vote for the state officers.
The state president is selected from the group of state officers of the previous year.
