Boomers win district softball tournament

Woodward, Okla. — The Boomers won their 4th consecutive Class 4A district softball championship Thursday.

Woodward, 20-14, defeated Guymon 11-1 and 14-4 to earn the championship at the Crystal Beach 5-plex. The games were moved from Woodward High School due to wet fields. The Boomers will play in the regional next Thursday at a site to be announced.

In game one, the Boomers got home runs from Courtney Cook and Kameron Pope and ended things in 5 innings. Adyson Clark was the winning pitcher.

The second game lasted 6 innings as the Boomers pulled away in the final 3 frames.

Guymon led 2-0 early before the Boomers took the lead on a 3-run homer by Haylee Bates.

Ahead 4-3 after 3 innings, the Boomers scored 10 runs over the last 3 innings. Sierra Irwin had an RBI single in the fourth, Heidi McEwan drove in 2 runs and McKenzie Hunter 1 as the Boomers stretched the lead to 8-3.

Three more runs came in the 5th inning and 3 more in the 6th.

Bailey Webster started for the Boomers and was relieved during the third inning by Clark.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Down by one in the final minute, the Oklahoma City's Derek Fisher turned a tough situation for the Thunder into the worst-case scenario for the Grizzlies.

    Fisher poked the ball away from Memphis' Mike Conley, springing three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant into the open court with a chance to put the Thunder on top.

    HOUSTON (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder were unhappy about coming back to Houston for Game 6. They left town in a much better mood.

    Kevin Durant scored 27 points and Kevin Martin added 25 to lead the Thunder to a 103-94 victory over the Rockets on Friday night, sending Oklahoma City to the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season.
