Traveler teams hosting festival

Woodward, Okla. — Both Traveler baseball teams are home this weekend as they start the stretch run of the season.

The Majors and Minors are in the 6-team Woodward Festival that starts this afternoon at Fuller Park and runs through Sunday.

Woodward’s Majors team is the defending festival champion.

The Majors (who played in Enid on Wednesday) come into the festival off a strong showing in the South Plains Classic in Midwest City. Woodward won 7 games in that tournament and finished second.

The Minors finished third in the Bottlerocket Shootout last weekend and on Tuesday split a doubleheader with Weatherford. In that twinbill, the Minors posted a 17-3 decision in the second game after dropping the opener 8-0.

On Wednesday, the Minors split at Enid, winning 8-1 and losing 10-8.

The Minors play twice on day one of the festival, facing Dodge City, Kan. at 2 p.m. and Wichita, Kan. at 7 p.m. The Majors take on Dodge City at 4:30 p.m.

Ada and the Southwest Shockers join the fray starting Friday.

For the remainder of the weekend, the Majors face Wichita at 7 p.m. on Friday and the Southwest Shockers at 3 p.m. and Ada at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The Minors play Ada at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and the Southwest Shockers at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
