Tigers open with victory

Woodward, Okla. — BUFFALO –  Laverne opened its football season in impressive fashion, defeating Buffalo 52-6 Thursday in a game ended in the third period by the mercy rule.

Johnny Kelln rushed for 168 yards and 3 touchdowns in just 10 carries as the Tigers, ranked No. 1 in some Class B polls, defeated Buffalo for the second year in a row.

Kelln had scoring runs for 64, 54 and 36 yards for the Tigers. Sophomore quarterback Seth Overstreet ran for a score and threw for another to Darrell Nine, and J. R. Halliburton and Tucker Hickman had touchdowns as well.

Dakota Buckhaults had the Buffalo touchdown on a 73-yard run.

After Buckhaults' big play, the Bison trailed just 16-6, but Laverne scored 36 unanswered points to win the game.

Tigers had 308 yards rushing on just 19 attempts and finished with 349 yards in total offense. Buffalo had 142 total yards, 101 through the air.

Buckhaults led Buffalo with 73 yards rushing. Levi Gray threw for 101 yards.
