The Boomers split its two early games in the Woodward Baseball Festival on Thursday.
After routing Frederick 15-2 in the opening game, the Boomers dropped a 13-12 8-inning thriller to Lawton Mac. In a late game on Thursday, the Boomers lost 11-4 to McGuinness and are now 4-2 on the season.
Jake Gilreath scored four runs and Tyler Williams three in the win over Frederick.
Chris Acosta pitched four innings for the win and Gilreath worked the fifth frame.
The Boomers scored in every inning with a 7-run outburst in the third the big frame.
Eric Luthi had two hits and drove in three runs and Bo Kent also drove in two runs with a pair of hits. Braden Todd added two RBI.
Against Lawton MacArthur, the Boomers fell behind 12-3 early, then rallied to tie it 12-12 after five innings.
Lawton MacArthur scored the game winner in the 8th on a triple and throwing error, then turned away a Boomer rally in the bottom of the inning.
Todd and Colten Whitewater had hits to start the inning, but Lawton Mac reliever Tanner Rainey got a ground ball and two strikeouts to close out the game.
Todd, the third Woodward pitcher, took the loss.
Lawton MacArthur used 10 hits and four Boomer errors to take a 10-3 lead after two innings. The Highlanders added two more runs in the third for a 12-3 advantage.
Woodward answered with three in its half of the third as a two-run single by Kent was the big blow.
In the fourth, the Boomers scored three more runs with the help of some Lawton Mac miscues.
Then, the Boomers tied it in the fifth. Kent singled with one out and scored on a double by Gilreath, Williams was hit by a pitch and Luthi walked and Todd singled in two runs. Todd had four hits in the game and Luthi and Kent three each.
After the fifth inning, neither team threatened seriously until the eighth.
Tanner Ward had a strong outing on the mound, coming on in relief in the third and shutting down the Highlanders. He left the game after being injured in a collision at second base.
In the McGuinness game, the Boomers had 10 hits, two each from Todd and Acosta. Kent started and took the loss.
McGuinness had 13 hits.
In the other festival game, Lawton MacArthur defeated McGuinness 7-4.
Weather permitting, the Boomers will be in the Shawnee Festival on Saturday.
