Woodward’s boys and girls basketball teams will host a Class 4A district and the first round of a regional tournament in the 2010 basketball playoffs.
The Boomers, ranked 15th in okrankings.com and 11th in coachesaid.com, (boys) will host Guymon on Saturday, Feb. 20 in the District 1 tournament. Game time is 8 p.m. The girls game is at 6:30 p.m.
The pairings were announced Wednesday by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association.
Woodward will host a sub-regional on Thursday, Feb. 25 with two consolation bracket games in the afternoon and the regional championship semifinals at night. The remainder of the regional - Friday and Saturday games - will be played in Clinton.
The other districts in Woodward's regional have Harding Charter Prep at Anadarko on Feb. 20 and on Feb. 19, John Marshall hosts Santa Fe South and Elk City hosts Clinton. John Marshall's boys are ranked fourth.
On the girls side, Anadarko and Clinton are the highest ranked teams in the regional.
The Woodward-Guymon winners and losers will play the Clinton-Elk City winners and losers in the sub-regional.
Thursday' games in the second part of the regional will be held in Anadarko before moving to Clinton.
District matchups in the second regional that makes up Area 1 have Blackwell and Cleveland and Classen at McGuinness on Saturday. Friday's district games will have Heritage Hall at Piedmont and Cushing at Perkins. The regional will be at Cushing with a subregional at Heritage Hall.
The McGuinness boys and girls are the highest rated teams in the area. McGuinness’ boys are the highest rated team in the area at No. 3 in okrankings.com. The Irish girls are ranked sixth, second highest in the area behind No. 5 Anadarko.
The Area 1 tournament will be played at Midwest City.
This marks the first time in 5 years of being in Class 4A that Woodward has been selected for any part of a regional tournament.
Note: With Woodward assigned a 4A subregional, the first day of the Class B Area 1 tournament on Feb. 25 will be held in Laverne. The final two days of the area tournament, Feb. 26-27 will be at Boomer Fieldhouse.
