Woodward, Okla. —
The Southwest Shockers advanced to the semifinals of the Oklahoma Town League State Tournament with a win over the Traveler Minors Wednesday night.
It was the first loss for the Minors, who downed the Enid Rookies 13-1 in the first game of the day.
In another earlier game, the Cleveland County Shockers battered the Southwest Shockers Red team 24-3.
Cleveland County and the Traveler Majors were playing the late game on Wednesday night.
Rain delayed the tournament for some 2 hours during the afternoon.
In the Enid portion of the tournament, the Oklahoma Baseball Academy White team beat the Enid Minors and the Oklahoma City Sandlot upset the Oklahoma Baseball Academy Red team.
The Enid Majors and OBA White were playing the late game.
Today’s schedule at the new Fuller Park starts with the Enid Minors against the Woodward-Cleveland County loser at 10 a.m. Three more games will follow. The Enid Rookies play OBA White or the Enid Majors at 1 p.m. and the SW Shockers Red face the OBA Red at 4 p.m.
The Southwest Shockers are in the 7 p.m. game against Cleveland County or Woodward Majors.
Southwest advanced by building a 15-7 lead then holding off a late rally by the Woodward Minors.
Mason Toole drove in 3 runs with a homer and triple and Taylor Smith hit a 3-run homer to pace the Shockers.
Woodward got a solo homer from Mason Marshall and Cody Hutner drove in 3 runs with a pair of double. Francisco Alvarez scored twice and drove in a run.
Billy Love was the winning pitcher. Brandon Corr took the loss.
In their opening game, the Minors scored in 6 of 7 innings for a 13-1 win.
Tyler Mannering had 3 hits and drove in 3 runs for Woodward and Connor Ross scored 3 times. Clayton Stoup doubled twice and Corr hit a 2-run double.
Zach Friesen went the distance for the victory.
Cleveland County jumped all over the Southwest Shockers younger team with 8 runs in the first inning and 7 in the second on the way to a 5-inning decision.
