sabella Martin’s bases-loaded triple broke open a scoreless game and the Boomers went to defeat Beaver 10-2 in the finals of the Woodward Invitational on Saturday.
The Boomers won 3 games in a row after dropping a 5-2 decision to the Lady Dusters in the winners’ bracket final.
Woodward bounced back to eliminate Shattuck 13-1, then edged Beaver 7-4 in the first championship game.
The final game was scoreless until the fourth inning. Taitum Hoffman singled and one out later Kari Fewin singled. Kayli Castor walked to load the bases. With two outs, Martin was given a second chance after the Dusters dropped a pop fly in foul territory and she delivered with a blast to the wall to bring in all 3 runs.
The Boomers then added 7 more in the fifth to put the game away. Whitley Williamson and Castor each had two RBI in the inning as the Boomers 6 hits and sent 11 batters to the plate. Alex Fischer had an RBI double.
Beaver scored twice in the bottom half for the 10-2 final.
Courtney Cook was the winning pitcher with relief help from Williamson in the fifth inning.
Anna McDonald, who pitched the entire tournament for Beaver, took the loss.
In the first round of the finals, Beaver took a 4-1 lead in the first inning with just one hit.
The Boomers climbed to within 4-2, then Castor blasted a 3-run homer to give them the lead for good in the third inning.
Castor had a big game overall, scoring 3 runs and driving in 3.
The Boomers added insurance runs in the seventh with Martin delivering a key pinch-hit single.
Cook shut down the Dusters after the first inning, getting a strong defensive effort the entire game.
In the Shattuck game, the Boomers scored 9 runs in the fourth inning to break things open.
Danielle Ramirez blasted her second home run of the tournament during the inning and Williamson, Hoffman, Castor and Cook all drove in runs. Hoffman drove in a pair of runs in the third inning.
Williamson was the winning pitcher.
In the winners’ bracket final, Beaver scored 3 runs in the first inning and went on for a 5-2 decision.
The Boomers scored twice in the third inning on an RBI double by Cook and RBI single by Haylee Bates. Williamson went the distance for the Boomers.
Shattuck opened the day with a 6-5 win over Vici, then Sharon-Mutual eliminated the Woodward JV 5-3. Shattuck knocked out Sharon-Mutual 11-4.
The Boomers will take a 6-1 record into a game at Guymon on Monday.
Woodward had 3 junior high teams in the Weatherford Tournament over the weekend.
The Boomers A team went 2-2, defeating Weatherford 6-5 and Hobart 4-2, and losing to Hydro-Eakly 6-4 and Weatherford 1-0.
The B team lsot 9-8 to Elk City and 9-0 to Weatherford
The C team lost 15-0 to Frederick and 20-0 to Cordell
