The Traveler baseball teams turned in strong tournament performances over the weekend.
The Majors placed second in the Pueblo, Colo. Tournament of Champions while the Minors reached the semifinals of the 16s showcase in Elk City.
In the Pueblo championship game, Elk City scored twice in the top of the seventh to edge the Travelers 6-4 Sunday.
Woodward trailed 4-0 through four innings, then scored once in the fifth and three times in the sixth to tie the game.
Chance Beck’s two-run single got the Travelers even.
But Elk City got the first two runners on in the seventh and ended up scoring.
Jake Tuck threw solid in relief, but still took the loss.
Miguel Salcido and Ryne Dunlavy were selected to the All-Tournament team and Levi Lew was named outstanding pitcher.
Woodward reached the finals by routing Pueblo Loaf and Jug 11-1 and a team from Puerto Rico 10-2.
Against Pueblo, Lewis scattered five hits ands truck out six.
Dunlavy scored twice and drove in two runs. Salcido had three RBI, Beck tripled and Matt McDonald and Tuck doubled.
Tuck was the winning pitcher against Puerto Rico in a game that went just three innings due to rain.
Tuck allowed two hits and fanned five.
Tyler Overton drove in three runs and Salcido had a two-run homer. Trevor Long, McDonald and Dunlavy all had extra base hits.
Woodward will host the Southwest Shockers in a 5 p.m. doubleheader today.
The Minors fell behind early against Elk City Sunday and dropped an 11-5 semifinal game.
Woodward goes to Elk City for a 6 p.m. twinbill tonight, then hosts the Oklahoma Baseball Academy on Wednesday.
