AA Travelers roll past Enid teams

ENID – Trevor Julian tossed a perfect game and the Travelers Minors pounded three Enid pitchers for 10 hits and 14 runs at David Allen Memorial Ballpark Saturday afternoon.

Julian retired all 15 batters he faced in the five innings and also blasted a two-run homer as Woodward dominated a team it lost to 9-5 earlier in the week.

Tyler Williams led the Travelers attack in the 14-0 victory. Williams homered, doubled, tripled, drove in five runs and scored three to pace Woodward.

The Travelers scored in all five innings, knocking out Enid starter Joe Phillips in the third inning, then hitting around relievers Tanner Leon and Christian Rodriguez as well.

It started early when Julian blasted a two-run homer in the first, also scoring Braden Todd, who singled to start the game.

Williams hit a solo homer in the second for a 3-0 lead.

A four-run third inning put the Travelers in control. Williams, Mitchell Killgo and Coleton Whitewater all had RBI doubles in the inning.

In the fourth, the Travelers added six more runs. Williams’ bases-clearing triple was the key blow while Whitewater had a sacrifice fly and Todd an RBI double.

Braden Hunt doubled and scored in the fifth for the final run.

Julian wasn’t overpowering on the mound, only two strikeouts, but made key pitches at the right time and got an errorless performance by the defense.

Hunt’s diving stop of a grounder by Miguel Bertado was the toughest defensive play for the Travelers. Todd also had a nice running catch in left field and Hunt made a nice play on a tough grounder to end the game.

The Travelers then completed an impressive afternoon with a 12-4 victory over the Enid Area AAA, also in five innings.

Codey McElroy had the big game at the plate with two homers and five runs-batted-in. His grand slam homer in the fifth gave Woodward the run-rule margin.

The Travelers never trailed as they scored three runs in the top of the first inning, got four in the third, one in the fourth and four in the fifth inning.

Enid scored in the first and third frames. The big blow was a two-run homer by Omar Fierro.

Williams added two hits and two RBI for the Travelers and Julian had a run-scoring double. Conner Ross also drove in a run with a hit.

Skipper Lumley went the distance for the win, allowing six hits and striking out four.

Woodward travels to play the Southwest Shockers today at Cache High School. Game time is 4 p.m. On Monday, the Travelers host Alva, then they host Dodge City, Kan. on Wednesday.
