Third-ranked Laverne edged No. 6 Canton 28-22 in a key District B-1 contest at Kilmer Field on Friday.
A fourth-quarter rally helped Laverne improve to 3-1 overall and 3-0 in the district. Canton lost for the first time this season.
Canton led 22-14 after Colby Haigler’s 67-yard touchdown run with 10 minutes left in the game.
Laverne countered almost immediately on a 40-yard pass from Jack Taylor to Braydn Koinzan with 8:56 left to play. The extra point try failed.
Laverne got the go-ahead score with 3:18 left in the game on Kyle Cook’s two-yard run. Cook also had the conversion run.
Both teams had big nights on offense with Laverne collecting 328 yards and Canton 405.
Laverne jumped out to a 6-0 lead on Taylor’s 86-yard run two minutes into the game. Taylor’s conversion run made it 8-0.
Canton scored on a 23-yard run by Toree Meat, but Cook went 43 yards for Laverne to make it 14-6.
Canton evened the game at 14-14 in the third period on a 4-yard run by Schuyler Williams.
Taylor finished with 128 yards on 19 carries for Laverne and Cook had 93 yards on 18 attempts.
Haigler led Canton with 114 yards and Williams had 112.
Laverne plays a non-district game next week against Class C No. 1 Shattuck.
In another Class C game, the Waynoka Railroaders rallied from an 18-point deficit to edge second-ranked Buffalo 32-30 in a battle of unbeaten teams.
A touchdown and two-point conversion with a little over three minutes left was the difference for Waynoka.
The Railroaders are now 4-0 and 3-0 in District C-1. Buffalo is 2-1 and 1-1 in the district.
Also, Seiling edged Pond Creek Hunter 21-6 and Forgan routed Sharon-Mutual 46-0. The Seiling game was a non-district matchup.
In District A-1, the Beaver Dusters dropped a 28-20 decision to Oklahoma Bible Academy.
OBA scored the last two touchdowns of th game to overcome a 20-13 advantage.
A 13-yard touchdown pass from Chris Kuykendall to Matt Siebert and two-point conversion from Kuykendall to Austin Davis put OBA ahead 21-20 in the third period.
Harrison Jackson’s eight-yard run with 3:18 left in the game added the insurance.
For Beaver, Samuel Becker threw two touchdown passes and Gus Skaggs returned a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.
Top-ranked Okeene had no trouble with Texhoma, rolling to a 42-0 halftime lead on the way to a 49-0 victory.
Brock Wardlaw had three touchdowns for the Whippets, catching a 14-yard scoring pass from Dalton Brewer, returning a punt 65 yards to paydirt and intercepting a pass and going 17 yards for the score.
Also with touchdowns for Okeene were Brewer, Matt Benham (two) and Tyler Burghardt. Jacob Parrish kicked all the extra points.
In other A-1 games, Turpin beat Mooreland 26-0, Chisholm routed Hooker 54-6 and Hennessey hammered Pioneer 44-0.
Games of interest in Class 2A saw Heritage Hall crush Alva 40- and Kingfisher beat Mount Saint Mary, 54-0.
