Boomer softball team beats Alva

Woodward, Okla. — A 5-run first inning carried the Boomers to an 11-3 win over Alva in high school softball action at the WHS field on Monday.

Woodward followed that up with a 17-6 victory in the B team game.

Courtney Cook’s leadoff double was followed by 3 consecutive Alva errors, opening the door for the big inning. McKenzie Hunter and  Heidi McEwan added singles in the inning and Laira Fowler also drove in a run.

The Boomers added a run in the second inning as Cook tripled and scored on an error.

After Alva scored in the third frame the Boomers picked up 2 more in the fifth with he help of 2 errors and Cook’s RBI single.

Alva got 2 runs in the top of the sixth, but the Boomers added 3 in the bottom half on doubles by Jessica Burkhart, and Sierra Irwin, a walk and a 2-run triple by Fowler.

Adyson Clark was the winning pitcher, scattering 5 hits over 7 innings and striking out 5.

In some other scores, Seiling beat the Woodward JV team 7-1 and 5-3. Woodward’s 7th grade beat the Seiling junior high 7-0. Woodward's 8th grade team lost twice to Enid, 6-5, and 6-3.

Mooreland’s junior high team beat Vici 13-3 and the Bearcats won the high school game, 18-0.

    Marc Gasol scored 20 points and hit two free throws with 1:03 left to put Memphis ahead to stay, and the Grizzlies held off Oklahoma City 87-81 Saturday to take a 2-1 lead in this Western Conference semifinal.

    OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Down by one in the final minute, the Oklahoma City's Derek Fisher turned a tough situation for the Thunder into the worst-case scenario for the Grizzlies.

    Fisher poked the ball away from Memphis' Mike Conley, springing three-time NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant into the open court with a chance to put the Thunder on top.

  • Thunder beat Rockets 103-94 to advance

    HOUSTON (AP) — The Oklahoma City Thunder were unhappy about coming back to Houston for Game 6. They left town in a much better mood.

    Kevin Durant scored 27 points and Kevin Martin added 25 to lead the Thunder to a 103-94 victory over the Rockets on Friday night, sending Oklahoma City to the second round of the playoffs for the third straight season.
