OKLAHOMA CITY - Dillon Langston and Kent Callison combined on a 3-hitter and the Travelers defeated the Oklahoma City Sandlot Connie Mack team 9-4 at Hefner Park on Monday night.
In their final tuneup before the College World Series Tournament in Omaha that starts on Wednesday, the Travelers pounded out 14 hits in raising their record to 15-11.
Langston pitched into the 7th inning for the win with Callison going the final 2.3 frames for a save. Langston struck out 5 and walked 4 while giving up 3 hits. Callison had 3 strikeouts.
The Travelers were a bit shaky on the defensive end with 5 errors, but that wasn't the case offensively.
Clayton Stoup had 4 hits, including a pair of 2-run homers and drove in 5 runs to pace the attack. Mason Marshall added 3 hits and scored 3 times and Francisco Alvarez and Bryce Clemons had a pair of hits.
Stoup's first homer gave the Travelers a 3-1 lead in the 3rd inning and his second made it 5-1 in the top of the 5th.
After Sandlot scored 3 times in the bottom of the 5th to close the gap, the Travelers got a run in the 6th as Clemons doubled and scored on Zach Friesen's grounder.
In the 7th inning, Marshall tripled and scored on Stoup's single. Clayton Brewster then singled to score Stoup.
The final run came in the 8th when Leno Ramirez was hit by a pitch and scored on Marshall's double.
The Travelers open action in Omaha at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Walton, Ind. Woodward will play a minimum of 5 games in the tournament and possibly more if it can advance to bracket play.
Woodward's next home action is June 25 with a doubleheader against the Enid Minors.
Note: The Travelers have released schedules for a couple of upcoming tournaments they are hosting.
The Minors will host the Bottlerocket Shootout on June 28-July 1 and the Majors will host a festival on July 5-8.
