Woodward, Okla. —
Kenneth Ruttman, 88 year old longtime rancher passed away Saturday February 11, 2012 at the Woodward Regional Hospital after a battle with cancer. Kenneth Martin Ruttman was born December 26, 1923 on a farm north of Mooreland. He was the first born child to John Martin and Edna Mae (Miller) Ruttman. Kenneth graduated from Mooreland High School in 1942 as class president. That fall he went to work on the ranch of William G. and Frank Harrison also helping out on the Selman and Cooper ranches. Frank, Vernita and the girls treated him like family and he stayed for 7 years. He then worked for Phil Ferguson until 1952 and part-time thereafter until the ranch was sold. In the fall of 1952 he went to work for Bud Reger at the Woodward Livestock Auction. His first job there was to just catch the cattle that escaped from the sale barn property. He rode horses in the alley for many years until he became Weighmaster, staying until his good friends Merton and Roberta Roberts sold the facility.
On January 21, 1950 he was united in marriage to Marcella Ruth Coombes and to this union was born one daughter, Amber Kay.
Kenneth was a stockman who loved horses and livestock and truly enjoyed his life’s work. He always said" I’ve had a lot fun in my life." He enjoyed deer and quail hunting and he raised some great bird dogs and horses. He fed his cattle until his health would just not let him do it anymore.
Kenneth was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his family and friends will truly miss him and the great stories he told.
Kenneth leaves to mourn his passing his daughter Amber Kay Heflin and husband Ricky, his granddaughter Rose Ann Heflin and fiancée Matt Loomis of Woodward. He leaves one brother Lloyd J. Ruttman and wife Gloria and family of Overland Park, Ks. Sister, Louise Elwood and families of Oklahoma City, OK. Sister-in-law Mona Ruttman and brother-in-law Lewis Coombes of Woodward and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marcella in 2009, brother Calvin, brother-in-law Beryle Elwood, his wife’s family Merlin Coombes, Tom Coombes, Mary Skinner and husband Bob, Bertha Wiggins and husband Ed, Margaret Coombes and Betty Coombes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Cancer Research with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
