Elzie R. Noblitt

Woodward, Okla. — Elzie R. Noblitt, 77 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, January 21, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel.

Elzie Roy Noblitt was born on June 18, 1935 in Almagordo, New Mexico.  He and his twin sister Elsie were the youngest of seven children born to Oscar and Purney (Roach) Noblitt, Sr.  The family left New Mexico when he was four years old.  The family settled in Freedom when Elzie was eleven.  When Elzie was 18 years of age, he went to Nebraska and worked on railroad construction crews and later on an electric highline crew.  Elzie started working on a ranch near Hardtner, Kansas when he was 21.  Lydia’s parents worked on the same ranch that Elzie did.  They fell in love and were married on August 29, 1957 in Alva, Oklahoma.  Elzie worked on farms in Kansas while Lydia kept house and helped with some of the chores.  Their wonderful sense of humor helped them maintain a happy home through the years.  In 1960 thy moved back to Oklahoma where they worked at Alabaster Caverns.  They moved into Woodward and Elzie went to work for the Highway Department.

Elzie and Lydia had planned to have a large family but they couldn’t, so they enjoyed raising everyone else’s children.  On March 30, 1968 they were Baptized.  Elzie spent many years as first counselor in the Branch Presidency.  He also taught in the Primary and in the Mutual.  Elzie retired from the Highway Department to become the friendliest produce man at Wal-Mart.

He is survived by his wife Lydia Noblitt of the home; two sisters, Twila Potts of Washington, Elsie Williams and husband Bob of Kaw City, Oklahoma; one brother Don Noblitt of Tulsa; sisters-in-law, Linda Ellis and husband Jack of Woodward, Helen Love of Woodward; brothers-in-law, Jessie Simpson of Enid, Jeff Simpson and wife Mary of Granbury, Texas, Donald Lee Simpson of Granbury, Texas; Jerry Simpson of Granbury, Texas; several nieces, nephews, great nephews and great nieces, other relatives and a host of friends.
