Woodward, Okla. — Harold D. Converse Ed.D 87, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 surrounded by his loving family at the Newton Presbyterian Manor in Newton, KS.  He was born February 17, 1924 in Mutual, Oklahoma to Herschel and Orpha (Bish) Converse.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three wives, Mildred Converse, Norma Pauline Converse, and Anne Royston Converse. Harold was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Newton.  He was head of the Psychology Department for Fort Hays State University and served as President of the Kansas Psychological Association.  He served on the board of directors for the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation.  Harold retired as a Neuropsychologist serving over 2,000 children and adults in south-central Kansas.

 

He enjoyed writing poetry, music and children’s books.  Harold greatly looked forward to spending time with his loving family and many friends.

 

Harold is survived by a son Wayne and his wife Robin Converse of Derby, Kansas and a daughter Paula and her husband Erich Silbermayr of Kolsass, Tirol, Austria.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

 

A celebration of Harold’s life will be held at 2 pm Saturday, October 22, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, 900 North Columbus in Newton, Kansas.  A private family burial will take place at a future time.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorials to The First Presbyterian Church at 900 North Columbus, Newton Presbyterian Manor at 1200 East 7th or Prairie View in care of Petersen Funeral Home at 215 N. Main in Newton, KS  67114.  As a reflection of his life, memorials to Harold D. Converse will be utilized to serve the needs of children and seniors.

Funeral services will be held Saturday May 26, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. in the Woodward Church of Christ. Officiating ministers will be James Bailey and Jim Rucker. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery of Woodward under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Woodward.

    Dowling and Myrlie Flora Emmitt Dowling at Okeene, Oklahoma. He worked
    at Tinker Air Force Base for 30 years and retired to the farm that his
    parents purchased in 1953.
