Arlie Melvin Weir

Woodward, Okla. — Arlie Melvin Weir, 88 year old Woodward resident died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 in the Vici Nursing Home.  No services are planned but the family will receive friends at the Billings Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 7, 2012.  Arlie wished to be cremated and a private family burial will be at a later date.

 

Arlie Melvin Weir was born on September 18, 1923 in Moorewood, Oklahoma to Johnnie Carlton and Lillie D. (Hawkins) Weir.  The family moved to May and Arlie attended May Schools.  Arlie moved to Sharon with his family where he attended and graduated from Sharon High School.

 

On July 13, 1947, Arlie was united in marriage to Norma Jean Campbell at the South Persimmon Baptist Church parsonage.  They made their home in Sharon and lived south of Sharon for over 48 years.  After working on the farm all those years, Arlie and Norma decided to retire and move to Woodward in 1995.  Norma preceded him in death on March 2, 2009.

 

Arlie was in the Navy during WWII, serving in the South Pacific and was assigned to the Merchant Marines where he was a gunner and a gunner’s mate.

 

Arlie loved farming, wood working, hunting, fishing and pulling jokes on people.  He also loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren sports and activities.

 

He was survived by three sons, Marvin Weir and wife Debby of Vici; Stephen Weir and wife Cindy of Longview, Texas; Larry Weir and wife Freida of Sharon; one daughter Sarah Edwards and husband Darrell of Sharon; grandchildren, Bart and Kelly, JC and Robin Weir, Angie and Mark Rodrigues, Chris and Linda Scott, Cody and Heather Weir, Jody Weir; Roxi, Brooke, and Dariel Edwards; great-grandchildren, Kayden, Koner and Karlie Weir, Garrett, Aundrea and Leo Rodriguez, Brooklyn and Clayton Scott and Corie Humbolt; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and four sisters.

    Jan R. Brown passed from this earthly life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 20th, after a short illness. He was born on June 21, 1939 in El Reno OK. Jan and his wife of 56 years have enjoyed the last 20 years of semi-retirement in Hot Springs Village AR. Many great memories have been created for family and friends in this beautiful golfing community.

As a child Lana lived on the farm near Webb, Oklahoma and attended Taloga High School graduating with the class of 1983.

    Lloyd Lorn Elston went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was born September 24, 1919 to John and Sarah Elizabeth (Taylor) Elston west of Laverne, Oklahoma in Beaver County. He was the 12th child out of 13 and the youngest boy in the family.
