Woodward, Okla. —
Curtis Brian Haines, 71 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, February 25, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, March 4, 2013 at the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Shane Rackley officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 3, 2013 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at the Billings Funeral Home.
Curtis Haines was born on February 4, 1942 in Higgins, Texas to Laife and Lili (Trueblood) Haines. Curtis was reared in Straight, Oklahoma and graduated from Guymon High School in 1960. After 2 years stationed in Germany in the service, Curtis attended Panhandle State University in Goodwell, OK for 3 years. During his final semester, he took a job as an insurance adjuster with an agency that relocated him to Lima, Ohio where he subsequently met his bride-to-be, Sharon Ann Leininger. He was united in marriage to Sharon on June 20, 1970 in Seiling, Oklahoma. They made their home in Arnett for two years before moving to Woodward in 1972. Curtis has lived in Woodward since that time and his wife, Sharon, passed away in late 2010. They have one son - BJ Haines of Berlin, Germany.
After spending his early working years at Coors, Curtis found his true calling when he ventured out on his own in 1985 and created MCM Rentals in the oilfield industry. During the next 27 years, he grew his start-up into a well-respected BOP rental company with a reputation for straight-forward business practices and always delivering for his clients. Work/Life balance is often an elusive formula but Curtis seemed to understand better than most how important this mysterious recipe can be in improving the quality of everyday life. The cell phone revolutionized his unique business model: coffee with the boys at 5am, work hard from 6am to 11am then hit the lake for some fishing.
His greatest joys were time spent out at the lake: fishing on his own or with his brother, Wes, or with friends either at Fort Supply Lake or Lake Vincent. His passion for fishing stemmed back to the small lake his own father helped build out at Straight and carried over to the number of years he and Sharon helped his parents run The Bait Barn out at Lake Vincent.
Curtis is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharon.
He is survived by his one son, BJ Haines and wife Toma of Berlin, Germany; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and DD Haines and their son Curtis of Dallas, Texas; other relatives and many friends.
