Jack R. Stepp, 83 year old Woodward resident, died Monday, September 6, 2010 in Enid. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 9, 2010 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Orville White officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Wednesday September 8, 2010 at the funeral home.
Jack Ray Stepp was born June 24, 1927 in Arnett, Oklahoma; he was the son of Claude Donald and Thelma Lesta (Williams) Stepp. He grew up on a farm south of Gage. Jack attended Gage schools before going to work on the family farm. He was inducted into the U. S. Army in March of 1945 and served his country during World War II. He was honorably discharged in April of 1947. Following his service time, he began working for the Santa Fe Railroad. On September 11, 1954, he was married to Emalene Louise Wasson in Higgins, Texas. They made their home in Woodward. In 1956, Jack began working for Gilbert Maytag working there until 1959. Jack and Emalene owned and operated Stepps Maytag from 1959 until 1998.
After his retirement, Jack liked watching sports, going fishing, playing cards and going to dances at the Woodward Senior Citizens Center.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Woodward VFW.
He is survived by one son, Tommy Stepp and wife Nancy of Mutual; one step-daughter, Susan Cox of Oklahoma City; special friend, Hazel Shryock of Woodward; one sister, Betty Simpson of Shattuck; brother-in-law Bob Wasson and wife Aileen; grandson Chris Stepp of Mutual; step-grandson Jason Cox and wife Tiffany of Chandler, Arizona; step granddaughter Angela Solo and husband Tristan of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one sister, his wife, Emalene; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.
