Avis E. Duncan, 83 year old former Woodward resident, died Sunday, July 8, 2012 in Altus, Oklahoma. A memorial service will be held to celebrate Avis’s life on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel in Woodward. The family will receive friends the morning of the service at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. A private family burial will be held at the Moscow Flats Cemetery.
Avis Ethel (Brittain) Duncan was born on February 27, 1929 in Mutual, Oklahoma to Clinton Elzie and Blanche (Huff) Brittain. Avis was reared on the family farm in the Sharon-Mutual area until she was 14 years of age when she moved into Woodward to work for the Dobber family. She attended the Woodward schools and graduated from Woodward High School. Avis was united in marriage to Raymond Riley Duncan on August 15, 1946 in Ashland, Kansas. They made their home in Woodward and Avis worked for her mother-in-law as a typist. The family lost their home during the 1947 Woodward tornado, In 1952, the family moved to Udall, Kansas where they lost their second home to a tornado. They lived in several different places because Raymond worked as a Minister. They moved to Canadian, Texas in 1974 and lived there until moving to Woodward in 2000.
Avis was a member and was very active in the Church of Christ. She loved playing cards and being with her friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Deborah Weir and husband Marvin of Vici, Dana Bowers and husband Robert of Altus, David Duncan and wife Barbara of Katy, Texas; her beloved grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Barton Weir and wife Kelly, JC Weir, Robin Weir, Amanda Crisman and husband Kern, Andy Bowers and wife Vanessa, Megan Bowers, Morgan Bowers, Anna Beth Duncan, Emma Duncan; four great-grandchildren, James Crisman, Ava Crisman, Fletcher Bowers, Josephine Bowers; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond on February 14, 1980, two sisters, Nina and Ruth, and her five brothers, Neil, Dale, Kail, Lyle and Gene.

Karl Wayne Platte
Karl Wayne Platte was born December 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl tragically left this life on June 1, 2013 as a result of a car accident. He was 32 years of age. He moved with his family to Dora, New Mexico in 1986. While in Dora, Karl asked Jesus into his life at a very young age. It was there that Karl’s competitive, athletic spirit was kindled. In 1992, the Platte family moved to Wilson, Texas where Karl participated in every sport he could imagine and excelled in them all. He grew a great love for all sports and the outdoors.

Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery beside her beloved husband Earl. Visitation will be held on June 3, 2013 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
