Walter Henry Whitcomb

Woodward, Okla. — Walter Henry Whitcomb, MD, passed away January 22, 2013 with his loving family by his side.  



    He was born January 26, 1928 in Enid, Oklahoma to Walter and Ollie (Henson) Whitcomb. 

    He is survived by his wife, Juanetta; son, Walter Phillip Whitcomb and wife Kristina Bush; son, James Mark Whitcomb; daughter, Katheryn Whitcomb Potts and husband Steven Jeffrey; eight grandchildren, Michael John Potts, Christopher Joseph Potts, Andrew Whitcomb, Hayley Whitcomb Lester, David Andrew Potts, Jessica Whitcomb Johnson, Walter Price Whitcomb, and Conner Horan Whitcomb and one great-grandchild.  



    He was preceded in death by his parents, and his first wife, Phyllis Figley Whitcomb of Woodward, OK.  Dr. Whitcomb was an Eagle Scout and proud supporter of the Boy Scouts of America and the Philmont Scout Ranch.  During his seven years as a Captain in the United States Air Force, Dr. Whitcomb focused on research pertaining to the U.S. space program in Austin and San Antonio, TX.  During his 35 year career at the OUHSC, Dr. Whitcomb conducted vital research in the study of Nuclear Medicine and Erythropoietic Kinetics.  He was instrumental in the growth of programs and facilities for the Oklahoma City VA Med Center including the first VA outpatient clinic in the US and the first hospital in the US to have electronic medical records.  



    He served as Chief Resident at OU Medical School, Chief of Radiological Laboratory at University of Texas and USAF in Austin, Assistant Professor of Medicine at OU Medical School, Chief of Staff OKCVAMC, Director of OKCVAMC, Director Computerized Medical Systems, Washington, DC, and Director of Rehab Medicine of OKCVAMC.  



    Dr. Whitcomb has been published over 40 times in Medical journals and text books.  Besides medicine, Dr. Whitcomb has a passion for his children, sailing and metal sculpture – not necessarily in that order.  For further information and accomplishments please visit his memorial through www.baggerley.com  



    In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of the Friends of Byrd Library, checks can be made payable to: OU Foundation, PO Box 26901, LIB 162, OKC, OK 73126. Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 28, 2013 at Quail Springs Baptist Church with a reception to follow.

    Patricia Carol (Bell) Geyer Age:  66 was born 02/09/1947 in Daviess County Hospital, Owensboro Kentucky. She died in her home while on hospice care on May 14th, 2013 at 4:45pm.

    Lana Jean Ramsey, 46 year old Vici resident, passed from this life Thursday, May 9, 2013. Lana was born on October 20, 1966 in Alva, Oklahoma to Lance and Mona Jean Stephenson. As a child Lana lived on the farm near Webb, Oklahoma and attended Taloga High School graduating with the class of 1983.

  • Lloyd Lorn Elston Lloyd Lorn Elston

    Lloyd Lorn Elston went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was born September 24, 1919 to John and Sarah Elizabeth (Taylor) Elston west of Laverne, Oklahoma in Beaver County. He was the 12th child out of 13 and the youngest boy in the family.

    Jo Ann Keltch, 68 year old Sharon resident, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital.   Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the South Persimmon Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay Custar and the Reverend Eddie White officiating.  Burial will follow in the South Persimmon Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday,  May 10, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

    Chris Waterman, 42 year old Woodward resident, passed away Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2013 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Shane Rackley officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward.

  • LaRoy “Chuck” Vernon Bailey

    LaRoy “Chuck” Vernon Bailey, 74 year old rural Fargo resident, was born March 26, 1939 at Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Loys and Margretha (Toellner) Bailey. He attended school at Fargo, graduating with the “Class of 1959”. After graduating High School he went to mechanics school at Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he completed the certification requirements to be an auto mechanic.

    Mary Ann Hunt Berry was born in Camargo, OK on Aug. 24, 1933 to Anna Mildred Blair Hunt and Herman Edward Hunt.  She was one of ten children.  She departed this life on April 30, 2013.   She attended Camargo Schools, and graduated with the class of 1951.  She continued her education at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, where she completed her bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.

Frost, 93 year old Woodward resident, died Sunday, May 5, 2013 in the Grace Living Center.  Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 at the Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Jeremy Skaggs officiating.  Burial will follow with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

  • R. A. Lotspeich R.A. Lotspeich

      R.A. Lotspeich, 81 year old Rosston, Oklahoma, farmer and rancher passed away Friday, May 3, 2013.  The only son of Kenney and Osie Lotspeich, R.A. was born March 24, 1932, graduated Rosston High School 1949, and Oklahoma A & M in 1954 with a degree in agriculture.  During his college career, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and the college rodeo team, excelling in bull riding.  Having been an ROTC cadet at Oklahoma A & M, R.A. went on to serve as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army for two years and was honorably discharged in 1955.
