BERNIE ROY TRAVIS Taken from Earth to Heaven the same way he lived his life, nice and easy. Bernie Roy Travis passed away peacefully the evening of July 26, 2012 while comfortably surrounded by those he loved, in his Apple Valley home of 30 years. Bernie succumbed to the after effects of a well fought battle with cancer. Bernie and his loving devoted wife of 59 years and their children moved to the High Desert in 1956. A master carpenter in the art of finish carpentry; a kind and gentle man whose craftsmanship can be found in thousands of homes across the High Desert of Southern California. He was loved and cherished by all those who came to know him.

A veteran of the United States Army. Born to James Ellsworth Travis and Edith Irene (Clark) Travis, August 3rd, 1933 in Follett , Texas. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Hazel May Travis, with whom her married March 28, 1953, and by his three sons, Jim (Wendi) Travis of Corona, CA,; Ron (Doris) Travis of Lexington, OK.; Jeff (Kim) Travis of Las Vegas, NV. Survived as well by his sisters Peggy (Bob) Howard of Pampa, TX., Diane (Brad) Dalton of Alanreed, TX., Mary (Gil) Perkins of Gate, OK. Sister-in-law Judy Travis of Shattuck, OK., Delsa Travis of Byers, CO., Oleta Lemmons of Laverne, OK., and 2 brothers-in-laws Gary Lemmons of Laverne, OK. and Jim K. Simmons of Athens TX.; plus 9 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his daughter Connie Lee (Travis) Jones, his mother and father James and Edith Travis, his brothers Bill Travis, Russ Travis, his sisters, Genie (Travis) Crane, Sister-in-law Doris Simmons and a grandson Dustyn Ratliff.

Saturday, October 6, 2012 a lunch will be served at 12 noon at the Clearlake Community Center. The service will be at 2 p.m. at Clearlake Fairview Cemetery in Beaver County, OK. Don Travis officiating.

  • Karl Platte Karl Wayne Platte

    Karl Wayne Platte was born December 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl tragically left this life on June 1, 2013 as a result of a car accident. He was 32 years of age.  He moved with his family to Dora, New Mexico in 1986. While in Dora, Karl asked Jesus into his life at a very young age. It was there that Karl’s competitive, athletic spirit was kindled. In 1992, the Platte family moved to Wilson, Texas where Karl participated in every sport he could imagine and excelled in them all. He grew a great love for all sports and the outdoors.

    Funeral services for Wilda Marie Schmidt age 84 of Woodward will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jim Steenbergen officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery beside her beloved husband Earl.  Visitation will be held on June 3, 2013 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

    Pauline Henrietta McClung was born December 21, 1921, to Henry Matthews McClung and Phoebe Ferris James McClung on the family homestead farm west of May, Oklahoma. She died on May 29, 2013, at age 91 in Woodward, Oklahoma.

    Lamont Munsell, 92 year old Mooreland resident, died Wednesday, May 29, 2013 in the Mooreland Heritage Manor.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 1, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Mooreland.  Burial will follow in the Mooreland Cemetery.  Military rites will be conducted by the United States Army.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home of Mooreland.
