Graveside service for Darlena “Dawn” Valentine, 80, Geronimo, will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery with Rev. David Woods, Pastor, Glory Bound Church, Marlow, officiating.
Mrs. Valentine died Sunday in Oklahoma City.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service.
She was born May 19, 1930 in Laverne, Oklahoma, to Frank and Marie (Close) Shuman. During the “Great Depression” she moved with her family to Colorado and later would return to Laverne where she attended school. She married Luke Valentine on March 6, 1949 in Laverne. He preceded her in death on October 9, 1981. She became a Lawton resident in 1971 coming here from Chickasha.
She had owned and operated a Phillips 66 Station at 11th and Lee as well as a dump truck operation but she was primarily a homemaker. She would later marry William “Dub” Sams on June 30, 1995 in Wichita Falls, Texas. She enjoyed cards, puzzles and board games and loved her family deeply.
She is survived by her husband, Marlow; three sons and daughters in law, Stacy and Margaret Valentine, Geronimo, Stewart and Robin Valentine, Elgin, and Scott and Debbie Valentine, Newport, Arkansas; a sister and brother in law, Kathy and Daniel Beckman, Perry City, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Spencer Valentine, Chase Valentine, Mitchell Valentine and wife Christina, Keith Valentine, Krystin Valentine and Kylee Valentine; three great grandchildren, Brynli, Lexa and Kinsley Valentine.
Four sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
