Woodward, Okla. — Barry R. Sexton, 61 year old Woodward resident, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at his home in Woodward.  A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Shane Rackley officiating.  A private family burial will be held at a later date.

 

Barry Richard Sexton was born on August 30, 1951 in Millington, Tennessee to Richard Devere and Irene Jacqueline (Litton) Sexton.  He was reared in Balboa, California for a year and one year in Hunnington Beach, California before moving to Azle, Texas in 1960.  Barry graduated in 1969 from Honolulu High School in Honolulu, Hawaii.  He was inducted into the United States Air Force in 1969 and attained the rank of Sergeant.  He served his country during the Vietnam War until being honorably discharged in 1973.  Barry worked in the oilfield for 15 years.  He retired from the State of Oklahoma in January of 2008 after 20 years of service.  He met many life long friends during his 20 years working for the state.

 

He was united in marriage to Tonya Lynn Clow on December 17, 2001 in Higgins, Texas.  They made their home in Woodward.  Barry enjoyed quail hunting, dove hunting, fishing, the Walleye Rodeo and river rafting the Royal Gorge in Canyon City, Colorado.  He also loved spending time with his family and playing softball.

 

He is survived by his wife Tonya Sexton of the home; three sons, Brad Sexton and wife Heather of Woodward, Jonathan Lukes of Kingfisher, Kameron Lukes of Woodward; one daughter, Kristy Williams and husband Jason of Houston, Texas; one brother Brian Sexton and wife Barbara of Springtown, Texas; two grandchildren Owen Smith and Avery Williams; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Emily Clow of Woodward, special friends, Jeromey and Tasha Gastor of Woodward, Tom McClendon of Woodward, Donnie Holderman of Woodward and Ken Thomas of Woodward; other relatives and many friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-dad, Jack Scott and his life long friend Eddie Hartwell.

    Leona Austin, 91 year old Woodward resident, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at her home south of Woodward.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.  Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home

  • Karl Platte Karl Wayne Platte

    Karl Wayne Platte was born December 2, 1980 to Kenny and Gail Platte in Big Spring, Texas. Karl tragically left this life on June 1, 2013 as a result of a car accident. He was 32 years of age.  He moved with his family to Dora, New Mexico in 1986. While in Dora, Karl asked Jesus into his life at a very young age. It was there that Karl’s competitive, athletic spirit was kindled. In 1992, the Platte family moved to Wilson, Texas where Karl participated in every sport he could imagine and excelled in them all. He grew a great love for all sports and the outdoors.

    Funeral services for Wilda Marie Schmidt age 84 of Woodward will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, June 4, 2013, in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Jim Steenbergen officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery beside her beloved husband Earl.  Visitation will be held on June 3, 2013 from 9:00 am until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
