Maymie Chase

Woodward, Okla. — Maymie Chase, 99 year old Woodward resident, passed away surrounded by her family at her home on February 14, 2013.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, February 18, 2013 in the First Christian Church with the Reverend Jeremy Skaggs officiating.  Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

 

Maymie May (Haikey) Chase was born on May 16, 1913 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Ellis Riley and Sarah (Burgess) Haikey.  Maymie spent her early years in Sapulpa.  When Maymie was  13 years of age, her mother passed away and her father, unable to find work, sent her to the Indian School in Eufaula or as Maymie called it “her prison”.  After several escape attempts, she went to live with her aunt.   Her aunt’s house was next to the Haikey Chapel, a church her grandfather started, which still stands at 101st Street and Memorial in Tulsa.

 

Maymie was united in marriage to Burr Nathan Chase in Sapulpa, Oklahoma  and they made their home in Tulsa.  Maymie and Burr moved to Woodward in 1947 where they opened Woodward Glass and operated the store until 1973 when Burr retired.  Maymie’s main focus was her family and she devoted her life to them.  Maymie and Burr were married for 47 years.

 

Maymie volunteered wherever needed and did so for over 30 years to the Woodward County Election Board.  She was a member of the Eastern Star for over 50 years, and an OHC member for 57 years.  She belonged to several card playing clubs, Queen Esther Order of the Easter Star, Woodwardettes, Friends of the Star, and the Cherrio’s Club.

 

Maymie was a member of the First Christian Church.

 

She is survived by five daughters, Marian Stout and husband Herb of Fairview; Pat Crooks of Siloam Springs, Arkansas, Kathryn Estle and husband Bud of Broken Arrow, Carolyn Chase of Woodward, Joyce Hunter and husband Jim of Yukon; one son George Chase and wife Vicky of Carrollton, Texas; two brothers, Foster Haikey of Salina, Ellis R. Haikey, Jr., of Grants  Pass, Oregon; one sister, Norma Jo Cobb of Grants Pass, Oregon; twelve grandchildren, Gena Swofford and husband John, Yolanda Hunter, Colleen Crooks, Jimmy Crooks, Billy Crooks, Diana Dophied and husband Jerry, Dana McQueen and husband Mac, Michael Jamison and wife Stacey, Troy Jamison and wife Yoshi, Chad Jamison and wife Ashley, Ronda Guerrero and husband Izzy, Londa West and husband Dana; 22 great-grandchildren, Grant Swofford, Macy Swofford, Will Hunter, Derrick Hunter, Logan Crooks, Laura Crooks, Triena Marshall, Tracey Renfrow, Tyler Crooks, Elizabeth Crooks, Christopher Dophied, Katy McQueen,  Victor McQueen, Kiera Jamison, Sydney Jamison, Reagan Jamison, Hannah Jamison, Keine Jamison, Mariah Guerrero, Ryan Guerrero, Brooke West, Kendall West; five great-great-grandchildren, Taylor Garrigus, Hunter Garrigus, Michael Renfrow, Mackenzie Garrigus, Anthony Renfrow; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ellis and Sarah Haikey, her husband Burr N. Chase, one daughter, Sarah Lou Chase, brother, Eugene Haikey, one sister, Mary Jane Kloth, grandson, Jason Dean Ogden, great-grandson, Chase Allen Jamison, and a very special sister-in-law, Hope Owen.

  

The family would like to thank our “special care giver” Donna Lewis and a special thank you to Kerrie Stubbs with Faith Hospice.

 

Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Heart Research, in Maymie’s name.

    Lana Jean Ramsey, 46 year old Vici resident, passed from this life Thursday, May 9, 2013. Lana was born on October 20, 1966 in Alva, Oklahoma to Lance and Mona Jean Stephenson. As a child Lana lived on the farm near Webb, Oklahoma and attended Taloga High School graduating with the class of 1983.

    Lloyd Lorn Elston went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2013. He was born September 24, 1919 to John and Sarah Elizabeth (Taylor) Elston west of Laverne, Oklahoma in Beaver County. He was the 12th child out of 13 and the youngest boy in the family.

    Jo Ann Keltch, 68 year old Sharon resident, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital.   Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the South Persimmon Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay Custar and the Reverend Eddie White officiating.  Burial will follow in the South Persimmon Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday,  May 10, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

    LaRoy “Chuck” Vernon Bailey, 74 year old rural Fargo resident, was born March 26, 1939 at Shattuck, Oklahoma, to Loys and Margretha (Toellner) Bailey. He attended school at Fargo, graduating with the “Class of 1959”. After graduating High School he went to mechanics school at Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he completed the certification requirements to be an auto mechanic.

    Mary Ann Hunt Berry was born in Camargo, OK on Aug. 24, 1933 to Anna Mildred Blair Hunt and Herman Edward Hunt.  She was one of ten children.  She departed this life on April 30, 2013.   She attended Camargo Schools, and graduated with the class of 1951.  She continued her education at Southwestern State College in Weatherford, where she completed her bachelor's degree in Pharmacy.

  • R. A. Lotspeich R.A. Lotspeich

      R.A. Lotspeich, 81 year old Rosston, Oklahoma, farmer and rancher passed away Friday, May 3, 2013.  The only son of Kenney and Osie Lotspeich, R.A. was born March 24, 1932, graduated Rosston High School 1949, and Oklahoma A & M in 1954 with a degree in agriculture.  During his college career, he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity and the college rodeo team, excelling in bull riding.  Having been an ROTC cadet at Oklahoma A & M, R.A. went on to serve as a 1st Lieutenant in the U. S. Army for two years and was honorably discharged in 1955.
