Woodward, Okla. — Josie (Montoya) Chavez was born on April 23, 1925 at Mesa, Arizona to Reynaldo and Delfina Montoya. She passed away on May 15, 2012 at the Seiling Community Hospital, Seiling Oklahoma from complications of dementia. Josie had been a resident of the Vici Nursing Home where she had received special care during her last stages of dementia.
She grew up and attended school in Mesa, Arizona. At age 18 she was crowned the Queen of Mesa by her hometown friends.
In 1945 Josie was married to Robert Chavez and they made their home in Compton, California.
Josie is survived by her two daughters, Minda Kelleher of Woodward and Virginia Colvin and husband Bruce of Yorba Linda, California; five grandchildren, Luke, Rachel and Stephen Kelleher all of Woodward, Todd Colvin and wife Maxine of Brea, California and Justin Colvin of Futterton, California; three great grandchildren, Samantha and Hudson Colvin of Brea, California and Easter Colvin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law John Kelleher.
Josie was a very devoted mother and loyal friend and will be missed very much.
A cremation memorial service will be held at a later date at the Saint Irenaeus Catholic Church in Cypress, California.
