Hugh Heath

Woodward, Okla. — Hugh Heath, 81 year old Edmond resident and former longtime Woodward resident, died peacefully wrapped in the loving arms of his family on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at his home in Edmond.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, 5th Street Campus.  Burial will be held at the Elmwood Cemetery with the United States Army providing military graveside rites.  Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

 

Hugh D. Heath, Jr. was born on April 3, 1931 at his home at 1503 Texas in Woodward, Oklahoma to H.D. and Lelah Mae (Perry) Heath.  He was reared in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School in 1949.  Hugh was inducted into the United States Army on January 20, 1951.  He served his country during the Korean War and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge and the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.  Hugh was honorably discharged on January 19, 1954.  He went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad after he was discharged from the Army and continued working there until 1961.  Hugh was united in marriage to Betty Rae White on June 25, 1954 at the First Baptist Church of Woodward, Oklahoma.  They made their home in Woodward.  In 1961, Hugh went to work for the United States Post Office and retired in 1992.   Hugh went to work for Terra Industries in 1993 and worked for them on and off until 2003.  He and Betty moved to Edmond in 2005 to be closer to their children.

 

Hugh was a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church and was also a member of the VFW.  He enjoyed sports, traveling with his family, Western swing music and yard work.  Hugh’s favorite thing was spending time with his family.

 

He is survived by his wife Betty Heath of the home in Edmond; one son, David Heath and wife Maurine; four daughters, Sandy Jividen and husband Tracy, Susie Smith and husband Troy Jr., Sheri Maples and husband Levi, Sidney Sears and husband Steve; nephew Tommy Heath and wife Kim; cousin Michael McDonald; brothers, Franklin Heath, Landon Heath and wife JoAnn; one sister Alice Maxine Heath; 13 grandchildren, Lori Dorshawand husband Greg, Keith Simms and wife Lori, Courtney Ramirez and husband Raul “Guy”, David Smith, Spencer Jividen and wife Julie, Brian Simms, Travis Smith, Zachary Heath, Kyle Smith, Ashlee Maze, Jonathan Maze, Jordann Jividen and Zane Heath; eight great-grandchildren, Madyson Simms, Hayley Smith, Bryson Jividen, Carter Dorshaw, Baylor Simms, Ryder Jividen, Lillian Smith, and Delaney Dorshaw; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Darlene and Frank Sokolosky, Vicki and Kenny Woods, Rita and David Barnett, many other beloved family and friends.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, H.D. and Lelah Heath, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Geraldine and George Corbett, father-in-law, Eldon White, sister Dorothy Maybee, brothers, Hoover and Lawrence Heath.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church or the Special Olympics of Weatherford with the funeral home accepting the contributions.

    Jan R. Brown passed from this earthly life to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 20th, after a short illness. He was born on June 21, 1939 in El Reno OK. Jan and his wife of 56 years have enjoyed the last 20 years of semi-retirement in Hot Springs Village AR. Many great memories have been created for family and friends in this beautiful golfing community.
