DALE NELSON GRUNEWALD,

Woodward, Okla. —     DALE NELSON GRUNEWALD, son of John Byron and Mary Francis (Nelson) Grunewald, was born September 30, 1924 at Mutual, Oklahoma in Woodward County.  He departed this life on Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Vici Nursing Home at age 88.

   

    Dale was raised at Mutual where he attended school and graduated high school in 1942.  He attended Oklahoma City University prior to  entering the United States Navy and served his country during WWII.  He served on the USS Kenton in the Pacific Theatre.  Following his honorable discharge, he returned to Oklahoma and furthered his education at Oklahoma A&M in Stillwater.  He was united in marriage to Dorothy Newman, February 19, 1948 at Mutual.  They made their home near Mutual where they raised their two daughters, Joyce and Jean.

  

    Dale and Dorothy worked as farmers and ranchers until he retired in 1989.  Dale served on the Woodward County Soil Conservation Board several years.  He received the Young Farmer Award while living in Coffeyville, KS.  In 1973, Dale was awarded the Woodward County Conservation District Outstanding Farmer Award.  He was a member of the Mutual United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parrish Committee, as well as, Sunday School Superintendent.  He also completed the Dale Carnegie course.

    He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Hedges and husband Jerry of Vici and Jean Taylor and husband Don of Hereford, TX, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, two sisters, Pauline Braley of Guymon and Emma Jean Hackett of Tulsa, two brothers, Pat Grunewald and wife Orphi of Woodward and Max Grunewald and wife Dolores of Mutual.  He is also survived by many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy December 21, 2011 and an infant son, Gayland Lee.



    The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the Mutual United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Ralston, officiating.  Interment with military honors will be in the Persimmon Cemetery.  Memorials can be made to the Mutual United Methodist Church with the Redinger Funeral Home-Box 236-Seiling, OK 73663, serving as custodian of the funds.  Condolence messages can be sent to the family at www.redingerfuneralhome.com

    Jo Ann Keltch, 68 year old Sharon resident, died Wednesday, May 8, 2013 in the Woodward Regional Hospital.   Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2013 in the South Persimmon Baptist Church with the Reverend Jay Custar and the Reverend Eddie White officiating.  Burial will follow in the South Persimmon Cemetery under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday,  May 10, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
