Terry Lee Griffith was born July 1, 1955 in Woodward, Oklahoma to Harlan Eugene “Jiggs” and Juanita Jewel (Arrington) Griffith. Terry was reared in the Moscow Flats Community until the age of 14 when he moved with his family to Freedom. Terry attended school at Mooreland through the 9th grade, before going to the Freedom schools. He graduated from Freedom High School in 1973. He attended Alva Vo Tech following graduation and obtained a degree in Diesel Mechanics. Terry moved to Liberal, Kansas where he went to work for Halliburton. He worked in various positions in construction and in the oil field in Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana. Terry especially enjoyed his employment with H.B. Zachary in Houston, Texas where he was a Supervisor of a construction crew.
After Terry gave his life to the Lord in 2006, God began to use him in many different ways. Terry developed a passion for feeding the homeless in Oklahoma City. He developed many friendships that also shared his passion. His dream was to plant large gardens across Oklahoma and to donate the produce to churches for distribution. Terry and his friends, Al Bresch and Lee Washington, were forming a non-profit ministry called Tribulation Saints. In 2011, while ministering to the homeless in Oklahoma City, he met Skip Cannon, the founder of the Joshua Foundation and Dan Short, founder of the Mustard Seed Development Corporation. Terry’s friends continue to minister to the homeless and those recently released from confinement. Their purpose is to lead them to Christ and help them rebuild their lives. His friends are committed to seeing Terry’s vision through.
He was a member of the Pentecostal Church and was involved in the Pioneer Country Emmaus Walk. Terry was saved at Buffalo, Oklahoma in 2006. He avidly read the Bible after that and especially loved the history of the Old Testament. He enjoyed spending time with his sons, Joe and Denver. They shared a joy for grilling and smoking various meats and vegetables. When they got together, the grill was lit and no one went hungry.
He is survived by his sons, Joe Griffith of Mutual, Denver Griffith and Sally of Kansas; his mother, Juanita Griffith of Sharon; one brother, Hugh Griffith and wife Colleen of Waianae, Hawaii; four sisters, Linda Catlin of Mutual, Karen Long of Woodward, Norma Lowther and husband Donnie of Mutual, Sharon Clem and husband Mark of Sharon; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles and many friends. Terry made friends in Oklahoma City that were special to him: Al Bresch, Lee and Rhonda Washington, Skip Cannon, Dan Short, Mark Penwright and Patrick Underhill. They were his Oklahoma City family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Griffith, sister, Lois Penrice, niece Amy Wheelwright and a nephew Mike Carter.
