Accident claims one life
A woman died in a one-vehicle accident in Woodward early Sunday morning.
Jennifer Hughen, 23, of Woodward, was pronounced dead at the Woodward Regional Hospital from injuries sustained in the accident, said the Woodward Police Department.
Hughen was driving a white 1992 Ford Explorer along Anderson Road when the vehicle lost control around 2:20 a.m. said Woodward Det. Lt. Chuck Wheeler.
The SUV, which was traveling at an estimated 72 miles per hour, hit a metal post causing the vehicle to roll one and one quarter times, Wheeler said.
Wheeler said Hughen, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was partially ejected from the vehicle and pinned under the front drivers side door jamb for approximately 12 minutes. Hughen suffered head and trunk injuries and was taken to the hospital by the Woodward County Emergency Medical Service.
Funeral services for Hughen will be 10 a.m. Friday in the Jerald Shaw Auditorium at Vici High School.
Fred Berry, 27, of Woodward, who was a passenger in the SUV, refused medical treatment at the scene, according to the police report.
Woodward Police and Fire Departments and Woodward County EMS worked the accident.
