Woodward, Okla. — Click below to watch a slideshow featuring scenes from the 2 wildfires that broke out in southern Woodward County Tuesday afternoon. The fire that erupted along Highway 270 near E/W 56 was started when a truck had a tire blow out along the highway, catching a nearby dry field on fire. The other fire, which was located just south of Sharon near the intersection of E/W 52 and Highway 34 (N/S 206), is believed to have also been started by a tire blowout as a piece of a tire was found near the ignition area. Pushed by strong southern winds, both fires burned more than 100 acres before area fire departments could get them contained and extinguished.
