County holds regular meeting

Woodward, Okla. — County Commissioners heard an information request from Doug Eagon on Jan 22 in regards to the proposed renovation plans to the Woodward County Fairgrounds.

One of Eagon's concerns focused on the legality of the appointed fairgrounds improvement task force created in regards to the proposed fairgrounds improvement discussions that have been taking place. Eagon was concerned that the task force might have met without posting notice to the public, and in doing so may have violated the Open Meetings Act.

District 1 Commissioner Tommy Roedell said, "We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, we will confer with the Assistant District Attorney and move forward from there."

Commissioners also discussed a number of other things about the project with Eagon.

The board also took action on a request from the Braun Family Trust for Rezoning a tract of land located northeast of the West Woodward Airport.

The representative of the Braun Family Trust present at the meeting, Mick Matheson, said they had rezoned 80 acres near the proposed rezoning area and sold it, and that they wanted to do the same for this tract of land.

District 3 Commissioner Vernie Matt said he had heard concerns that the land might be sold to a salvage yard or recycling facility. Matheson said that they had been approached by a sand blasting company interested in purchasing the property, but that to his knowledge no discussion of turning the land into a salvage yard had taken place.

The board approved the request with the option to reevaluate the decision if the land was to be sold to a salvage or junk yard.

Finally the board approved the allocation of alcohol beverage tax for January as well as the annual jail commissary report for 2012.
