Hope Connects program set for Sept. 15

Woodward, Okla. — Attention all women of Woodward and surrounding areas, the ladies of the First Assembly of God want to pamper you for a day.

Donnetta Hunter, outreach pastor for the First Assembly of God, said the church is hosting its 4th annual Hope Connects event for women on Sept. 15 from 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.   The First Assembly of God Church is located at 3906 Lakeview Dr.

"This is for all women over the age of 18 that are single, married, divorced, all women are welcome," Hunter said.

According to Hunter, the women will partake in many different classes during the morning and then will end the day with a fine luncheon.

"Those attending will be able to participate in craft, cooking, fitness and finance classes," she said.

"In the craft classes we will be making tutus, hair bows and aromatherapy products," she said. "And the cooking classes will be real recipes that they will be able to use and not have to search for the fancy ingredients."

Another highlight of the day are the free hair cuts and make-overs, provided by the ladies at A Cut Above.

"Many of the women that have come in the past have cried after they looked in the mirror after they got their haircuts because they just can't afford to have an actual cut done on a regular basis," Hunter said.

There will be several door prizes given away and free coats will be handed out to the women and children who need them, she said.

"We will even have a photographer on hand to take family portraits for free," she said.

The event will culminate with a lunch that will be served on real china, "no paper plates or plastic cups," Hunter said, noting "It is just one more way of making the ladies feel extra special on that day."

Hunter said making the women feel special and know that there is hope for them as they face their different struggles is the whole goal of the Hope Connects program.

"I started this 4 years ago because I wanted to give women hope through God," she said.

Hope Connects is a way for the church to help women that may not have the means to help themselves, she said.

"My favorite people to help is the single mother with 2 kids that just doesn't have the time to pamper herself," Hunter said.

Hope Connects allows these women to take a little time for themselves, because not only is the event itself free, but child care will also be provided at no charge for children up to the 6th grade, Hunter said.

"Our children's pastor has a whole day of activities planned for the kids," she said.

To register for event, call Donnetta at (580) 256-3860 or visit the Hope Connects Facebook page at www.facebook.com/hopeconnectswoodward.

"Please get your reservations in early so we can be sure to have enough help on hand for the child care," Hunter said.
