Woodward, Okla. —
With pleasant weather expected to continue, this weekend might be the perfect time to do a little sprucing up around your home.
Especially as this Saturday has been set aside as the fall "Trash Off Day" in Woodward.
City Sanitation Superintendent Roger Arnold said this Trash Off Day will be just like all the other previous clean up days sponsored by the city.
As part of Trash Off Day, Woodward residents will be allowed to dispose of trash, tires, and tree limbs at the Northwest Oklahoma Solid Waste Disposal Authority landfill. No dumping fees will be charged to those residents who present their city water bill at the landfill between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. this Saturday.
However, residents must still abide by the landfill's general dumping regulations, which include rules against dumping certain items, including chemicals such as paint as well as equipment such as household appliances.
For more information about the dumping restrictions, contact the landfill at (580) 256-3975.
Oil is one of the prohibited items at the landfill. However, oil may be disposed of Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the City of Woodward's Public Works facility at Lakeview and Madison.
In addition to abiding by the landfill's regulations, those disposing of debris this Saturday are asked to "keep the tires and tree limbs separate from their household trash," Arnold said.
This is because the different types of debris are collected at different sites within the landfill, he said.
In particular, tires need to be kept separate because although collected at the landfill, the tires are not buried with the other trash.
"The tires go to a recycling center," Arnold said.
He said the city offers tire disposal as an added benefit to the general trash disposal, because its just another way to help citizens keep their properties tidy.
"So many people don't have a place to take their tires after they change them on their vehicle; this just lets them get them off their property," he said.
Keeping things clean is the whole goal of the Trash Off Day, Arnold said.
"This just gives people the opportunity to clean up their lots and places," he said. "It helps them out and it helps us out."
