Several Woodward and area churches will be celebrating Christmas in special ways this week from candlelight communion services to Christmas Eve Masses.
The First Assembly of God in Woodward will conduct a family Christmas service at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
On Thursday the First Christian Church in Buffalo will hold a candlelight Christmas Eve service with scripture reading and songs at 9 p.m. Pastor Brody Bliss said the congregation will also sing songs that correlate with the scripture, “going through the whole birth of Christ.”
The following churches will also be hosting Christmas Eve candlelight services at the listed times:
• First Christian Church in Woodward, 5:45 p.m.
• First United Methodist Church in Woodward, 6 p.m., with communion
• First United Methodist Church in Fairview, 6 p.m., with communion
• and First Presbyterian Church in Woodward, 7 p.m., with communion
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Woodward will hold a 7 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve and a midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, preceded by a performance by a Christmas choir at 11:30 p.m., according to Father Scott Boeckman. There will also be a Mass on Christmas Day at 10 a.m.
A number of other area Catholic churches will also be hosting Christmas Eve Masses at the following times:
• Catholic Church in Shattuck, 5:30 p.m.
• Catholic Church in Buffalo, 7:30 p.m.
• Catholic Church in Mooreland, 9:30 p.m.
Then after Christmas, the First Baptist Church in Woodward will hold a concert featuring Christian music singer Matt Blagg at 10 a.m. Dec. 27. Christmas music will be included in the concert and casual dress is acceptable, according to Janice Brown, church secretary.
