More file for school board
Tuesday was the second day of the filing period for school board offices.
In Woodward County, Linda Harrison filed for re-election for her position on the Woodward School Board and Brett Aaron Bates did the same in Mooreland. Ray Yauk filed for High Plains Technology Center Zone 3.
Mark Shirley and Misty D. Thompson both filed for Office No. 5 in Sharon-Mutual on Monday. The incumbent is Kelly Overton.
At Fort Supply, incumbent Lynn Easterwood filed for another term in Office No. 5 on Monday, but two other offices open for filing - No. 3 and No. 4 - have yet to draw any interest.
In Ellis County, Kevin O’Brien filed for re-election in Gage and Dorothy Coffey also filed for the position. Terry Brent Imke filed for re-election in Shattuck and Bill Hallmark filed in Fargo.
In Dewey County, Troy Guthrie filed in Vici and in Seiling Robert C. Tate filed for re-election. Karen M. Daily filed in Taloga.
In Harper County, Chance Husted filed for the Laverne Office No. 5. There were still no filings for Buffalo.
In Woods County, Stan Cline signed up to run for the position for the Northwest Technology Center. Eric Smith filed to run for a seat at Freedom. Larry G. Parker and Aaron J. Place both signed up for the Alva position. There is yet to be any filings for Waynoka.
The filing period continues today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. School elections are Feb. 9.

Woodward County sees unemployment rate drop
In the last quarter of 2009, the unemployment rate in Woodward County dropped by almost a full percentage point and the number of county residents seeking unemployment benefits decreased by more than 100, according to information from the Oklahoma Employment Security Commission.
