Shattuck residents and visitors will be in for a holiday treat Wednesday.
Shattuck’s Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas parade will be held at 6 p.m. that day, followed by a visit from Santa Claus.
The parade will begin in front of the Shattuck Windmill Park and Museum and proceed down Main Street to First Street.
Immediately after the parade, Santa will hand out 300 “treat” bags, and refreshments will be served.
This year’s theme for float entries is "favorite Christmas carol” or “secular Christmas song.”
According to Dave Romine of the Shattuck Chamber of Commerce, it is common for entries to show up at the staging area without anyone’s prior knowledge that they will be in the parade, making it difficult to determine how many floats and groups will participate.
However, people do register some floats, and those will be described by the master of ceremonies as they pass the judges, Romine said.
The grand marshal of this year’s parade is Dr. Michael Flaherty, who has spent most of his career serving Newman Memorial Hospital and will retire in January, he said.
Northwest Oklahoma Shriners will also participate with their entertaining mini-cars.
Prizes will be given for the float with the best overall theme; first and second place school float; first and second place non-school float; best group; best decorated golf cart; best individual costume; and first and second place bike, cycle or three-wheeler.
But Christmas events in Shattuck will not end with the parade.
Main Street will host its annual “children’s shopping mall” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Chamber Ballroom, Romine said.
All gifts at the “shopping mall” will have prices ranging from free to a maximum of $7 a gift, he said.
Main Street volunteers will be available “to help younger children with their shopping,” and free gift wrapping will be provided, he said.
Santa will make a special appearance at the “shopping mall” and photos with him can be taken for a fee. The photos will be available for pick up at the Chamber of Commerce office starting Monday.
Shattuck merchants who want to participate should deliver their merchandise to the Main Street-Chamber office by 2 p.m. Thursday, Romine said.

“The Shattuck Chamber of Commerce annual Christmas parade’ and Main Street’s ‘Children’s Shopping Mall’ are wonderful holiday traditions for Shattuck’s youth,” Romine said.
