A bright interior color scheme was revealed for the new Early Childhood Development Center (ECDC) during the Woodward School Board of Education’s meeting Monday.
Project manager Terry Kerr said the 68,000 square-foot building will be divided into three separate wings to house pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade students. The wings will be color-coded red, green and blue. A neutral color scheme will be used in the front offices
Easily replaceable carpet tiles will be placed in each of the 39 classrooms. Some of the specialty tiles will feature colorful numbers and letters from the alphabet. Kerr said the gym will have a synthetic rubber floor.
The building will also have a music room, cafeteria, computer lab, library and speech classroom.
Completion is planned by July 1, 2010.
“Everything is on scheduled as planned,” Kerr said. He also said that construction at the three elementary schools is planned to be completed by Christmas.
Also at the meeting, the Woodward Public School system was recognized for receiving the state’s second most successful rate for GED graduation, and the girls cross country team was recognized for qualifying for state competition.
Christi Waggoner informed the board members and audience about the Oklahoma Child Care Resource and Referral program and the Parents as Teachers program.
Board members were given financial updates and building updates from financial secretary Lisa Tune, and they approved a number of items on the consent agenda including the general fund encumbrances, treasurer’s report and the activity fund report.
Other items approved include:
• A board policy Identity Theft Prevention and Detection Red Flags Rule Compliance (FLAG).
• A request for athletic out of state travel.
• A contract agreement between Woodward Schools and LeeAnn Tapscott, teacher of the visually impaired and orientation and mobility specialist.
Technology Director Bryan Stephenson updated the board on the new software being implemented including Netrikids, food management software; Destiny, library management software; and PowerSchool, student management software.
Stephenson said, “We’ve been struggling with the newness of the system, but progress is being made.”
The board members voted to go into executive session and later reconvened into open session. There was no new business to attend to, and the board adjourned at 8:59 p.m.
