Spook Parade Saturday at Moose Lodge
The Woodward Moose Lodge will be hosting its annual “Spook Parade” this Saturday from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
“It’s a carnival type deal,” that lodge administrator Bruce Snider said the Moose have been holding “since probably about 1972.”
“We’ll have booths set up with about 10 or 12 games,” Snider said, noting the children will receive candy as prizes for playing the games.
The games will include carnival favorites such as balloon pop and ring toss, he said.
Besides collecting candy and playing games, Snider said there will also be a costume contest, with first place prizes being awarded to the kids with the best costumes in four age groups: newborn to 3-year-olds, 4- to 6-year-olds, 7- to 9-year-olds, and 10- to 12-year-olds.
He noted the “Spook Parade” is quite popular and that the kids who attend usually seem to really enjoy it.
But while the “Spook Parade” is designed more for the younger kiddos, the Moose Lodge will also host a dance for older children in 5th through 8th grade from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Snider said this is only the second teen dance that the lodge has hosted. He explained that the lodge held a back to school dance in September, that was quite popular, bringing in more than 100 youngsters.
Some of those students expressed an interest in having another dance, he said, noting they even volunteered to help plan it.
“The kids said they wanted a dance on Halloween; they asked for it and so here it is,” he said.
Snider said the “Spook Parade” and dance are “just another one of the community service projects we do.”
The goal of both events, he said, is safety.
“We’re trying to keep the kids around here in a safe environment,” he said. “If they’re here, then we know where they’re at.”
No costume is required to participate in either event, Snider said, noting both events are free and open to the general public.
In fact, he said the Moose Lodge “sent out flyers to area schools in Sharon-Mutual, Fort Supply and Mooreland” inviting students and families from there to attend as well.
“We’d like to invite everybody to bring their kids to come out and have a good, safe time,” Snider said.
