Cattlemen to host annual trade show

The Northwest Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association 2009 Annual Meeting and Trade Show will be held Oct. 27 at at the Woodward County Fair Barn.

More than 40 exhibitors are expected to participate in the trade show, which, among others, will feature the Woodward Livestock Auction, Cattleman’s Choice Feedyard, Buffalo Feeders Feedlot, a number of drug companies, and several banks, according to Lance England, co-chairman for the event.

Three speakers will address the organization during the banquet: Derrell Peel, OSU professor and extension livestock specialist; Shawn Blood, veterinarian for Hitch Ranch and Feedlot; and Scott DeWald, Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association Legislative Issues director.

“We’ll also have entertainment by Jim Garling,” England said, describing Garling as a guitar player specializing in swing dance.

“It’s an opportunity for members to pay their dues and get together,” he said, noting about 200 to 300 will attend.

The trade show will begin at 4:30 p.m. and will continue until 6:30 p.m., when the annual meeting and steak dinner banquet will begin.

For ticket or booth information, England may be reached at (580) 256-3465 or Co-chairman Jay Bogdahn may be reached at (580) 698-2658.

The annual meeting and trade show is not a fundraiser for the Northwest Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association. However, the association holds a ball in May, which raises funds for scholarships and promotes the cattle industry.

“We give out an average of 15 $1,000 scholarships to college students each year,” England said.
