Woodward, Okla. —
The Family Wellness Center will be holding free health screenings for emergency service responders on Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Pioneer Room.
Dr. Barbie Phillips, owner of the Family Wellness Center, said she is holding the screenings because the reserve police officer, a patient of hers, said his fellow officers didn’t have the time to go to a doctor to take care of their health.
“We thought if we can’t get them here we’ll go to them,” she said. “We’re offering the screenings so they can stay healthy to do their jobs and so we can make this a safer and healthier community.”
Phillips said many from Woodward’s health and business community will offer their services for the “Appreciation Day for Emergency Service Responders.”
Emergency responders in law enforcement and other areas will be free to drop in when they have time to get the screenings performed, she said.
Phillips said screenings will include spinal checks to look for any misalignments of the spine that might inhibit quality of life; vision screening; body fat checking; blood pressure screening; cholesterol checks; blood sugar checks and body weight.
Nutritional information will also be provided along with ways to help treat colds, flu, sinus infection, stomach aches and natural ways of staying healthy, she said.’
There will be free barbecue sandwiches and free chair massages at the Appreciation Day as well.
“We also have many businesses that have contributed door prizes for drawings,” Phillips said.
“This is basically a day for health care providers to be able to show appreciation to the responder personnel in our community,” Phillips said.
