One man killed in Saturday wreck

Woodward, Okla. — A Shattuck man was killed in a 2-vehicle collision west of Woodward on Saturday morning.

William Lee Witchey, 61, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident approximately 4.8 miles west of Woodward on State Highway 15 said the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Witchey was driving east in his 2007 Chevrolet and William Adam Phillips, 27, of Woodward, was going west in a 2007 Kenworth truck, the OHP said in its report.

According to the report, both vehicles drove into a plume of nitrogen gas vapor where the visibility was limited. The OHP said Witchey’s vehicle, for an unknown reason entered the westbound lane and collided with the truck. Phillips was not injured.

Witchey was pinned for an hour and 45 minutes, the OHP said.

Trooper Jake Sawatzky investigated with accident with assistance from Trooper Dustin McAtee. The Woodward Fire Department, Woodward County EMS and the Woodward County Sheriff’s Department also responded to the scene.

The accident happened around 11:15 a.m., the OHP said.
