Woodward, Okla. —
Recovery Woodward continues to help victims of the April 15 tornado.
According to Becky Pierson, vice chair of Recovery Woodward, the group has helped 33 families with back to school purchases.
"With the help of the 1000 Hills Ranch Church and the Woodward Community Foundation, we were able to give out gift cards to these families to help with some of their back to school purchases," Pierson said.
The group went with gift cards so the families could get what they really needed to go back to school.
"Some already had help with the actual school supplies, but many still needed to buy school clothes," she said.
Pierson said that with the gift cards the families were able to go get the items they wanted and would use.
"If you are a tornado victim and didn't sign up for help after the storm, but you need help now, please let us know," Pierson said.
Many people after the storm had a place to go and didn't think they were going to need help, but when school time came around many were struggling to replace the clothes and shoes that were lost in the storm, Pierson said.
"That is what we are here for, is to help all victims of the tornado," Pierson said.
She also said that in the next few weeks Recovery Woodward will be organizing volunteers to work on some of the homes that are being rebuilt.
"We are going to help with the repair work on a few homes and as soon as the electrician is done in the first one we will be starting," she said.
