Woodward, Okla. —
Woodward County Election Board Secretary Carol Carrell said voter turnout by mid-afternoon Monday for the primary election had been “pretty good” and that she expects a big turnout at the polls today.
In addition to a couple of races -- one for county treasurer and the other for county commissioner District No. 1 -- the governor’s race is drawing quite a few voters, she said.
Carrell said 114 people voted on Friday with another 30 on Saturday. By mid-afternoon Monday, 80 more had come by to cast ballots.
And after looking at records from 2 years ago, she found that “over 400 voted” in the last primary election.
“We’re looking for a big turnout (today),” she said.
In anticipation of today, “we have our supplies out and precincts set up,” Carrell said.
In the local races, the county treasurer will be determined in the Republican primary since no Democrat is running for the office. Candidates are Sonya Coleman and Brenda Neagle.
The same scenario exists for county commissioner in District 1 as only Republicans are in the race. But, if none of the 3 candidates gets more than 50 percent of the vote, a runoff will be held in August. Candidates are Jeff McIntosh, Tommy Roedell and Stephanie Gillenwaters.
