City to address softball complex

Woodward, Okla. — Woodward City Commissioners are slated to take action related to renovations of the Crystal Beach softball complex at their next regular meeting at 7 p.m. Monday in City Hall.

City commissioners are first slated to consider a resolution under their consent agenda which would declare the current softball complex facilities as surplus.  This would mean that all material contained in, and made part of, the softball complex could then be "disposed of accordingly as scrap metal," the resolution states.

The commissioners will then act on an agreement with Timberlake Construction regarding construction of a new softball complex.

In other business, the commissioners are slated to receive a presentation from the Fairgrounds Improvement Task Force.  According to the agenda packet, C. J. Montgomery and Ira Smith, who are both members of the task force, will make a presentation about the upcoming election regarding improvements to the county fairgrounds.

City commissioners are also slated to consider meeting in an executive session Monday to consult with the city attorney relating to the West Woodward Regional Airport.

Both City Manager Alan Riffel and Assistant City Manager Doug Haines were out of the office and unavailable Friday to obtain more information about what the proposed executive session is about.

There is no action planned following the executive session.

Besides their regular meeting on Monday, Woodward City Commissioners are also slated to hold a special meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday to receive municipal governing body training.

City Clerk Catherine Coleman said the training is being offered through the city's liability insurance provider, the Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group (OMAG).

Coleman said that OMAG "offers training on all kinds of things from safety to supervisory training."

But she said this is the first time the city has participated in the municipal governing body training because "it's a relatively new program; I just learned about it this past October."

Because it is a new program, Coleman said she was unaware of what aspects the training covers.  However, she said that she does know the training is tailored for municipal office-holders based on their specific government types.
