Fargo Public Schools is inviting past and present students, parents and community members to attend its open house tonight from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Superintendent Jeff Thompson said the evening will be a lot of fun and different from previous open houses.
“We will have activities for everyone, from elementary students to the high schools students,” Thompson said, noting the open house is for the entire community.
Thompson described the event as “the kick off the school year.”
Parents will be able to meet the teachers and there will also be a free hamburger and hotdog cookout, Thompson said.
When the children take their parents meet to their teachers, the teachers will give the student a ticket that will allow them to play on the inflatables outside.
Thompson said this will be the first year for the open house to feature an inflatable slide and obstacle course.
“We decided to have the inflatables for the little kids so they would be able to run around and enjoy themselves,” Thompson said.
While, the younger students enjoy themselves on the inflatables the high schoolers will be getting ready for the tailgate contest. Thompson said 7th through 12th grade students will decorate the tailgate of a pickup like they would for an actual sports game. The winning grade with the best setup will win a t-shirt.
In addition, to the activities for students their will be exhibits for the community.
Thompson said an AirEvac helicopter will land on the softball and a fire truck is also coming, Also, there will be a blood pressure screening setup by the softball field.
“This years its not just for the school but also the community. We enjoy having former students come in, walking up and down the halls, and talking with their old teachers,” Thompson said. “This is a community school. The school is a big part of the community and that is important to us and we want to maintain that.”
