Woodward, Okla. —
The outdoor warning sirens in Woodward will be tested throughout the day today as officials work to upgrade electronic components in the sirens.
Woodward Emergency Manager Matt Lehenbauer said the new electronics will include a "report-back feature."
The reporting feature would send a message to the operations center warning if a siren is "malfunctioning or having any other issues," Lehenbauer said.
"This will allow us to be in the Emergency Operations Center and be able to monitor the functionality of the sirens," he said.
To ensure that this new reporting feature is working properly, the emergency manager said the sirens around town will be tested individually as they are modified with the new electronics.
Lehenbauer said these upgrades were made possible "by the donation from Apache Oil and Gas." (Click link to right to learn more about Apache's donation.)
