Woodward, Okla. — The Woodward Wranglers will host the Northwest District Spring Square Dance Festival on Saturday.

This year’s doo-wop themed event will begin at 7:45 p.m. in the Pioneer Room.  Susan Schuster, one of the event organizers, said she hoped to see six to eight squares on the dance floor.

The annual festival is a hit with local dancers and also draws folks from all over Oklahoma and Texas.  Other area clubs that will be represented include the Red Carpet Squares, of Shattuck; Levis and Lace, of Enid; and Singles and Doubles, all from an area east of Enid.

Many official square dance state officers will be in attendance, and Bobby Willis, of Oklahoma City, will do the calling.  Square dance vendors at the event will have a mix of costumes and attire for shoppers.

“This is a great chance for people to just come and watch.  We will welcome any spectators," Schuster said.  “People love to see all the costumes and swirling, twirling action, plus the music is always great.”

Schuster herself has been dancing with her husband, Harold, in the Woodward Wranglers club for 17 years.

“Dancing is just so much fun, you can really get a good laugh, and it’s good for you,” she said.  “It exercises my brain and my body.”
