Area man dies in 1-vehicle wreck

Woodward, Okla. — An area man died in a one-vehicle accident in Harper County late Wednesday night.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Dee William Smithton, 66, of Rosston, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on State Highway 283 16.5 miles north of Laverne on a county road. The accident happened just after 10 p.m., the OHP said.

According to the accident report from the OHP, Smithton's vehicle left the roadway to the right, overcorrected and left the roadway to the left, going into a broadside and rolling 2 and a half times coming to rest on its top in the bar ditch. Smithton was ejected from the vehicle, the OHP said.

The accident was investigated by Trooper James Crowder, Lt. Stan Walker and Trooper Chance Husted.
